- Fall and Post Election Update and Newsletter-
Looking to the seasons we can find many lessons and inspiration. The one that comes to mind today is that sometimes things get tough, conditions change, and still life finds a way to persist and push on. Life paths are already changing due to the election and many of us know how hard things were last time around. This time with even more scapegoating and declarations to do harm to people and our planet. The new unknown is how will things be this time compared to last.
The truth is the American people are struggling. A small amount of people are benefitting from the largest tax breaks, the increase in productivity, and market growth. 60%+ of people live paycheck to paycheck, an emergency away from chaos, and the system is making it illegal to be homeless (Nov 1st Supreme Court Ruling For Oregon Case). While we stress out a cliffside away from disaster - many people hear that the reason is some mistruth, other, or enemy. The media and national party leaders in particular have lost vision of what is good for america with what is good for them and their donors. I do not want the Trump presidency to be this way but it is certainly something he will continue. Corporations and both parties do this together and so we must be vigilant to stand against ideas that are bad for people and our planet.
I will share more election thoughts below - I really did think things were going to go another way and have been trying to process the change and what it all means. As life goes on I feel like this a good time to share that we are working on an event called Green Tuesday Live Market on Nov 26th at 5pm(mst). It will be an online livestream event and we have a new Green Tuesday page where can learn more about the live market. We will showcase different groups and sponsors in a fun format before the holidays and Black Friday! We want to remind people of the different artists, products, organizations, and opportunities around them that bring positive change and can support in some way.
Okay, back to a major lesson from the election. A big thing was that millions of people stayed home because they had not felt improvements in their life, were uninspired, and/or felt had a disagreement with the candidates. For future change we must center ideas that people feel will bring an improvement to their day to day. People also have issues with war spending and positioning around tragedies we are linked to.
Overall though we need to create media alternatives and look for the best ideas to improve our system and political process. Traditional media will focus on a reality star over a substantive policy discussion every day of the week. It has no problem airing people and talking about conversations from biases that help them and their sponsors. The system can be improved by pressuring both from the inside and the outside. We can present new ideas for what a political party stands for and replace leaders who are out of touch. We will be looking into and sharing more lessons learned from the election and strategies to help move forward here shortly.
Community Driven in this has been working to build bonds with organizations and leaders across Colorado. We have also been developing our community organizing, event planning, and media creation skills over the past four years. We are working to better build our business model so we can support a team of people actively growing a community of changemakers. Green Tuesday is likely our last big event and production of the year! Following the event we will be able to work on and plan out our places to focus on in the new year!
